What’s it like to stay at one of South Africa’s best wine hotels? That question was answered when we checked in at Steenberg Hotel & Spa, located 20 km outside Cape Town. Our weekend began with a tour of the historic estate - the oldest working farm in the country - where we sampled their acclaimed Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in the contemporary cellar. Back at the hotel, the rooms felt like a private retreat, with soft linens, elegant décor, and views over the vineyard and False Bay in the distance... Afternoons were made for unwinding in the spa’s eucalyptus steam room and vitality pool, followed by sundowners at the vineyard’s edge. Evenings meant indulging in farm-to-table dishes at Catharina’s Restaurant, each course artfully paired with Steenberg’s own vintages. Our stay was simply perfect. Read more

What’s not to love about La Petite Ferme? Tucked into the Franschhoek mountains with sweeping views over vineyards and valley, this boutique winery and hotel truly impressed us. We stayed for a couple of nights and were blown away by the charm of our suite. It included a fireplace, private plunge pool, and vineyard views that felt straight out of a postcard. Simply unbelievable! The same applies to the hotel's own wines, all made on-site... They were vibrant and full of personality, and paired beautifully with dishes from their acclaimed restaurant. Tucked into a peaceful corner of the Franschhoek valley, the property offers elegant villa-style accommodation with vineyard and mountain views that are hard to beat. Our villa was spacious and serene, with a private terrace perfect for morning coffee or evening wine. The on-site restaurant served refined, seasonal dishes, and the wine lounge introduced us to some excellent local blends... Service throughout was warm and attentive, striking the right balance between relaxed and refined. L’ermitage is quiet, charming, and perfectly placed for exploring Franschhoek’s wineries.
