Château de Saint-Aubin sits quietly along the Route des Grands Crus in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, surrounded by some of the world’s most revered vineyard plots. Here, wine and place are inseparable... The estate farms parcels in Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, producing precise Chardonnay and refined Pinot Noir shaped by limestone soils. We spent our days exploring neighbouring villages and returning for on-site tastings and relaxed dinners in the nearby wine bistros. Our room was simple and elegant, with vineyard views and the quiet that only a small Burgundian village can offer. In our opinion, Château de Saint-Aubin is ideal for travellers seeking an authentic and intimate Burgundy experience. We left with a deeper appreciation for terroir - and a strong desire to return. There is luxury, and then there is the kind of understatement that La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly pulls off so well. Sitting among the centuries-old vines of Château Haut-Bailly in Pessac-Léognan, this 19th-century guesthouse is part of one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, which already gives the stay a certain quiet authority... Our room blended rustic charm with just the right amount of modern comfort, and mornings started with homemade breakfasts on the terrace while the countryside slowly came to life. Afternoons were for lounging by the pool, exploring nearby Gaillac wineries, or wandering through quiet village streets that haven’t changed in centuries. Some hotels offer merely a vineyard view. Château Laffitte Carcasset offers life literally inside the vineyard. In Saint-Estèphe, one of the Médoc’s most serious appellations, it lets guests stay in the heart of the estate, with just five rooms, a large park and tastings that make the wine connection feel immediate rather than decorative. We absolutely love the beauty of the setting, the quality of the wines and the pleasure of château-style living without stiffness... The appeal here is obvious: wake up in Bordeaux, walk the property, taste the house wines and spend the evening thinking about whether it is possible to extend your stay for a few more days. We love that Château Tour Saint does not begin with hype, but with heritage. This Saint-Estèphe estate sits in one of the Médoc’s most serious appellations, close to the Gironde estuary. Its vineyard story is tied to the survival and revival of the smaller Bordeaux châteaux that lived through oidium, phylloxera and mildew before being reimagined for a new era... Today, guests stay in just five rooms surrounded by the estate’s own ten hectares of vines, which makes the whole experience feel quietly immersive rather than performative. What stayed with us most was the atmosphere: adults-only calm, a tasting room on site, vineyard walks, and that particular Saint-Estèphe mood where everything feels a little more structured and serious, including the wines. This is the kind of address we would choose when we want Bordeaux stripped back to its essentials: vines, history, and a glass with some real backbone. The estate includes a handful of hotel rooms and privately located villas surrounded by vines and forested hills... Though not a working winery, its proximity to Côtes de Bergerac, Pécharmant, and the famed Monbazillac appellations makes it an ideal base for wine exploration. For many, the intangible highlight is that vineyard backdrop - visible from the sunken pool, dining terraces, and the golf course that gently loops through the property. In short, Château Les Merles feels like stepping into a French countryside painting- with vines, elegant architecture, warm hospitality, and effortless elegance all in a single frame. There is a particular thrill to staying in a village whose name is practically shorthand for white-wine greatness. COMO Le Montrachet sits in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet, one of Burgundy’s most famous wine villages. Surrounded by the top wineries of the Côte de Beaune and within easy reach of Grand Cru tastings arranged directly through the hotel. In other words, the address is doing a lot of the work before you even unpack... What we love is the contrast between the setting and the brand. COMO brings its usual calm, tailored luxury, but here it is housed in an authentic 19th-century village building on a sleepy Puligny square. The result is not flashy at all - just deeply well placed, beautifully judged and rather dangerous for anyone already obsessed with Burgundy. Ever pictured a wine-country retreat that fuses contemporary design, gourmet dining, and vineyard serenity? Then check out (or should we say check-in) Domaine de Verchant & Spa. A stunning adults-only luxury hotel just outside Montpellier. Housed in a meticulously restored 16th-century mansion surrounded by 50 hectares of Rhône Valley vines, it delivers a sumptuous escape... Guest rooms and suites stand out with Italian furnishings, private terraces, and full-tech comforts - from computers to whirlpool tubs under exposed stone arches. But - as you can imagine - the spotlight remains on wine. You can stroll the barrel-lined cellar, sample estate-grown reds in an atmospheric tasting space, and sip by the infinity pool fringed with vines. And the spa? A vast 2,000 m² haven offering indoor/outdoor pools, hammams, saunas, and private duo cabins with vineyard views. The ideal place for romantics, foodies, and wine lovers alike in the South of France. Provence is the oldest wine region in France, with vines planted here more than 2,600 years ago. That heritage is alive at Les Florets, a charming family-run hotel and winery tucked into the foothills in Gigondas. The house itself is surrounded by terraced vineyards and cypress trees, with rooms that balance rustic Provençal character and simple comfort. Dinners here are a highlight as well... The kitchen pairs seasonal dishes with bottles from the estate and neighboring appellations, so you can taste the depth of this famous Rhône terroir without ever leaving the terrace. Chambres D'hotes keeps the Champagne experience close to the ground. In La Chapelle-Monthodon, in the Vallées de la Marne, it is a family-run guesthouse where the draw is not spectacle but direct access to the cellar, the vines and the people behind the bottles. That family connection is what gives the stay its appeal... The hosts Marina and Vincent welcome guests to a house that has been in the family for two generations, and the experience includes cellar visits, explanations of the Champagne-making process and tastings on arrival. It works especially well for those who want Champagne to feel personal rather than branded to death. Less gloss, more substance - and all the better for it. We love it! Set in Cumières, just outside Épernay, Champagne Philippe Martin brings together exactly what makes a Champagne stay so appealing: a historic house, direct access to the cellars, and the quiet thrill of waking up where the bottles are actually made. It feels intimate from the start, with suites inside the estate rather than a separate hotel setup. What gives it real charm is how closely the stay is tied to the house itself... Guests can visit the press, vat room and historic cellars, then end with a guided tasting of three Champagnes. A weekend here makes Champagne feel more personal, more local, and much harder to rush through. Book it for the cellar access, stay for the atmosphere, and let the region unfold at a slower pace. What stayed with us the most at Château de Besseuil was the sense that Burgundy was doing exactly what Burgundy does best: old stone, serious Chardonnay country, and no need to show off. The château sits in Clessé, right in the heart of the famous Viré-Clessé appellation. A fun fact is that this corner of the Mâconnais is often described as part of the cradle of Chardonnay, so you are not just sleeping near vineyards - you are staying in one of the grape’s spiritual homes... The hotel itself is more varied than we expected, with 14 rooms and 6 apartments split between the main château and its outbuildings. Some spaces lean traditional, others much more contemporary, and many look out over the vines or courtyard. Add a gastronomic restaurant, wine tastings, cellar visits and easy access to places like Cluny, Tournus and Roche de Solutré, and this becomes a very convincing base for a Southern Burgundy escape. Our recent stay at Château de Pizay felt like living inside a Beaujolais postcard. Surrounded by 80 hectares of vines, this 14th-century château blends fairytale architecture with the energy of a working winery. From the moment we walked through the gates, we knew this was going to live up to all our high expectations... Our suite looked out across the vineyards, and mornings began with long walks through the grounds before heading into the cellar for tastings of their vibrant Beaujolais and Morgon wines. The château also has a stunning spa, complete with wine-inspired treatments, and the outdoor pool was the perfect spot to watch the sun set over the hills. It’s romantic, indulgent, and rooted in centuries of history - a place that reminds you why staying in a winery hotel is so magical. Read moreGuest rating: 8.8 (fabulous)Price from: $286 /night

Burgundy as a wine region does not need much help, but Castel de Très Girard gives it an elegant little boost. In Morey-Saint-Denis, right on the Grands Crus route between Dijon and Beaune, this 17th-century château-turned-hotel places you among some of the world’s most coveted vineyards. Then adds a restaurant, pool and easy access to nearby spa indulgence. It is a classic Burgundy move: old stone, green surroundings, and bottles that matter very much indeed... What makes it even more memorable is how neatly it balances refinement and ease. Guests come here for food, the village setting and the fact that you are surrounded by famous vineyards in every direction. This is one for Pinot Noir pilgrims, anniversary travellers and anyone who likes their wine trips with a little more quiet confidence than spectacle. Champagne does not need much help seducing people, but André Bergère & Suites gives it an especially elegant push. Set right on Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, it places you in the middle of one of the world’s most storied sparkling-wine streets. All while it also links directly back to a family estate with vineyard roots dating to 1848 in the Vallée du Petit Morin... That combination of grand Champagne setting and real grower heritage gives the stay a lot more depth than a standard boutique base. The suites are part of the charm. Rather than formal hotel rooms alone, André Bergère offers a mix of guest rooms and larger apartment-style suites, some with kitchens, multiple bedrooms and lovely views over the garden or town. It's polished without feeling stiff. And then there is the Champagne itself, which is, of course, the whole point. Tastings take place in the cellar beneath the Avenue de Champagne, making the wine experience feel naturally woven into the stay. This is the kind of place that works beautifully for people who want Épernay at their doorstep and the sense that they are staying inside the story, not just next to it. If you're anything like us and absolutely love a great wine hotel getaway - then you'll definitely adore the Château de Mercuès. A 13th‑century stronghold turned Relais & Châteaux haven, located deep in the Lot Valley. Set across 30 rooms and suites - each echoing a historical era, with stone walls, exposed beams or ornate fabrics - it has the perfect mix of classic elegance and modern comforts... But the real magic happens underground: walk down a sloping corridor to the 35 hectares of Malbec-led vineyards and concrete‑vaulted cellars. Lined with wines aging six metres beneath the castle. Between spa dips in the castle’s 1960s outdoor pool, vineyard strolls, wine‑room tastings and meticulous staff that go over and beyond - this feels more like being part of a living wine legacy than simply staying in a hotel. There is something especially inviting about La Villa Champagne Ployez-Jacquemart. In Ludes, in the Montagne de Reims, it offers the rare mix of proper Champagne-house pedigree and the warmth of a guest stay, with just five themed rooms inside an estate built in 1930. The setting leans into classic French charm without becoming too formal... Breakfast is included, the rooms are individually styled, and the real highlight is the direct link to the Ployez-Jacquemart house itself, which turns the stay into more than a stop between tastings. Everything lands with ease here: a glass of Champagne, a quieter corner of the region, and a house that still feels rooted in savoir-faire. It is the sort of place that makes a wine holiday in Champagne feel very well spent. Read moreGuest rating: 8.7 (fabulous)Price from: $220 /night

Alsace is a wine region where German and French traditions meet, and it shows in its world-class Rieslings and Gewürztraminers. Staying at Hôtel Val-Vignes Colmar Haut-Koenigsbourg puts you right in the middle of that story. Housed in a former monastery above the village of Saint-Hippolyte, the hotel looks out across endless vineyards with the Vosges mountains on one side and the Black Forest on the other... Inside, spacious rooms combine Alsatian charm with modern comfort, while the spa and hammam are made for unwinding after a day of tasting along the famed Route des Vins. Guests can sample local wines on-site or head out to nearby villages like Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé, both postcard-perfect and brimming with cellars. Drifting through lavender fields and olive groves, we finally reached the magical Le Mas du Terme - and instantly felt that calm, golden rhythm of southern France settle in. Tucked between the vineyards of Ardèche and the Provençal hills near Barjac, this wine estate offers more than a place to stay - it’s a glimpse into rural elegance. We wandered among olive trees and vines, then cooled off by the infinity pool with a glass of the domaine’s own rosé... Dinner at on-site restaurant Le Carré des Saveurs was a highlight - local produce, estate olive oil, and wines that truly tell the story of the land. We had heard so many things about the peaceful setting and welcoming staff, and we couldn’t agree more. It’s ideal for couples, wine enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to trade noise for nature without giving up good food, great wine, and a bit of French romance. Arriving at Domaine Riberach felt like discovering one of those wine hotel gems you only hear about from locals. Set in the tiny village of Bélesta in Roussillon, the hotel is built inside a former cooperative winery - so yes, you’re literally sleeping where the wine once fermented. The history and character are everywhere, but it’s been transformed into something stylish, sustainable, and seriously inviting... Our room was airy and modern, with views that spilled over the vineyards and hills, and the pool carved into the old wine cellar was unlike anything we’ve seen before. The restaurant was another highlight, serving creative dishes that leaned on local produce and paired perfectly with their own organic wines. Tastings on-site gave us the chance to sip those same wines while hearing the story of how the estate has been reimagined. A true Roussillon secret - we’re of course already dreaming of going back. We had the pleasure of staying few days at Château la Gineste and it quickly became clear this isn’t your typical wine estate. The vineyards here are organic, the Malbec and Merlot grown with real attention to the land rather than for show. Tastings take you from the vines to the cellars, offering generous pours and straight-up conversations about the wine-no pretension, just people who know their craft. The château itself has an easy elegance... Spacious rooms with period details, long breakfasts, and a lovely pool for when the sun gets too much. And not to mention the terraces - perfect for opening whatever bottle you picked up earlier. It’s quiet, comfortable, and unpolished in the best way. If you want a place where the wine is as good as the setting, Château la Gineste is definitely worth the trip. Read moreGuest rating: 8.3 (very good)Price from: $132 /night

Combining a spectacular location in Bordeaux with some of the best rated accommodations in the area, Hôtel de Margaux has a very special place in our hearts. When we pulled up to Hôtel Restaurant Verger des Châteaux, it felt like we’d stumbled onto one of those secret spots along the Alsace Wine Route that you almost don’t want to share. Set on a hillside in Dieffenthal, the views stretched out over vineyards and the Vosges mountains, and we instantly knew we were in the right place. The rooms are cozy and many open to balconies where you can sip a glass of local Riesling while watching the sun dip behind the vines... Dinner was a highlight too - traditional Alsatian dishes, rich and comforting, paired beautifully with wines from just down the road. What we loved most, though, was the location. Within minutes we were wandering medieval villages, popping into cellars for tastings, and feeling like we were part of the rhythm of Alsace life. It’s not flashy, but it’s warm, authentic, and exactly the kind of wine-country stay we’ll remember for ever. Read moreGuest rating: 8.1 (very good)Price from: $108 /night

Chateau de Lantic sits in Martillac, in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, but still close enough to Bordeaux to make the whole stay feel deliciously easy. Its history dates back to 1720 when it was built for the daughter of Captain de Lantic, an officer of Louis XV. What we like here is the contrast. You get 18th-century architecture, a one-hectare French garden and vineyard surroundings, but the mood is not dusty or formal... There is a private spa, outdoor pool, complimentary bikes and walking routes through the surrounding vines, so the experience is less “grand château performance” and more “Bordeaux weekend with very good scenery.” For us, this is one for couples and city-breakers who want wine country without disappearing too far off-grid. In France, a domaine means that everything happens on-site. Grapes are grown, harvested, and turned into wine without leaving the estate. The stunning Domaine Rabiega in Provence is exactly that kind of place. It also features a boutique hotel that brings modern comfort, stylish rooms, a pool, and dishes paired with estate wines... Tastings here are super relaxed and you wander from your room through rows of Syrah, Grenache, and Chardonnay, then sip on the terrace as the sun slides down. It’s quiet, welcoming, and close enough to explore the charms of Provence. Just open the door and you’ve literally got the vineyard at your footsteps. Amid the endless vineyards of Alsace, Hôtel du Bollenberg is perfectly positioned between Colmar and Mulhouse. It’s surrounded by vines and open countryside, with views stretching toward the Vosges mountains. This is a classic family-run wine hotel, where the pace is relaxed, the welcome is warm, and the wine is always close at hand... The hotel’s connection to the land runs deep: local wines are celebrated in tastings and at the restaurant, where hearty Alsatian dishes come paired with crisp Rieslings and aromatic Gewürztraminers. If ever a wine estate looked as though it had been designed to seduce from the river up, it is Château Loudenne. With a private port on the Gironde estuary, a long tree-lined approach, and 140 hectares under organic farming, it has the kind of scale and drama that smaller Bordeaux stays simply cannot fake. We also loved the nickname: Loudenne is often referred to as the “pink château”, which already tells you this is not just another stern old Bordeaux property... The wine part is every bit as strong as the setting. This is a full estate with its own organic production, and the visits are built to bring guests into the whole story of the place rather than just pour and wave goodbye. Between the parkland, the estuary views and the sheer theatre of arriving by the water, this is the sort of address we would choose when we want Médoc with a little more grandeur and a little more romance.
