Immediately when you arrive at the outstanding Winzarei, Weingut Tement you'll be amazed by the location. It's like you have been dropped straight into one of Austria’s most thrilling vineyard landscapes. Perched above Südsteiermark’s dramatic Zieregg and Ciringa sites, this is not just a hotel near a winery, but part of the Tement universe itself... With the estate’s cult-status Sauvignon Blancs, guided tastings and cellar visits giving the whole stay proper grape-to-glass credibility. What makes it even more irresistible is the setup: beautifully winegrower stone houses, a range of suites, plus a private cottage. All wrapped in panoramic vineyard views and anchored by an infinity pool that deserves its own fan club. Breakfast comes as a basket, but the real luxury is the feeling of waking up inside one of Europe’s most exciting wine estates. For us, this is exactly the kind of place that belongs in our guide to the world’s best wine hotels. Read more

We had very high expectations before arriving at MALAT Weingut und Hotel, and from the very first moment, it impressed us in every way. Surrounded by the vineyards of the Kremstal Valley and the Danube’s gentle curves, we thought this family-run estate had the perfect balance of tradition, innovation and warm Austrian hospitality. The 7 rooms and suites combined timeless elegance with modern comfort, and our room even had sweeping views of the vineyards and the castle-dotted hills... During the days spent here we had the opportunity to discover the winery’s acclaimed Riesling wines through guided tastings and cellar tours, and enjoy regional cuisine in the inviting restaurant. We absolutely loved everything about our stay and would return without hesitation! Read more

At Gästehaus Benediktinerstift Göttweig, the wine story runs deeper than almost anywhere else. This is a working Benedictine abbey whose vineyard history stretches back to 1083, making it one of Austria’s oldest wine estates. Guests are not just staying near the vines - they are sleeping inside a monastery tied to around 30 hectares of vineyards, with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling leading the charge. And tastings of the abbey’s own wines are of course available on site... The atmosphere is the real hook. Instead of rustic winery romance, you get silence, baroque grandeur and those huge views over the Wachau from one of Austria’s most spectacular monastic landmarks. The cultural side is just as strong, with the abbey museum, imperial rooms and a monumental staircase that gives the whole stay an almost cinematic sense of occasion. For us, this is a brilliant pick for wine lovers, culture hunters and anyone who wants their Austrian wine escape with more history, more atmosphere and far more soul than a standard hotel. Read more

Some wine hotels are beautiful, some are memorable. Winkel Art Hotel is both - and honestly, we think it deserves a place among Austria’s very best wine hotels. Set deep in the vineyard folds of Südsteiermark near Gamlitz, it has that rare, intoxicating mix of style, stillness and total sense of place. You wake up surrounded by vines, spend the day hopping between some of the region’s finest wineries, then return to a hotel that feels every bit as seductive as the landscape outside... What really wins us over is that the hotel side is just as strong. The rooms come with panoramic terraces or balconies, king-size beds, rain showers and grape-based Vinoble amenities, while the 12-metre vineyard-view pool and panorama sauna make it dangerously easy to cancel all plans and stay put. And then there is the mood: arty, grown-up, polished but never stiff. Breakfast on the terrace among the vines only adds to the magic. For couples, design lovers and anyone plotting a wine escape with serious wow-factor, this is the one. Read more

  • History does a lot of the heavy lifting at Gästehaus Turm Wachau. In Weissenkirchen’s old Burgviertel, this thousand-year-old defensive tower has been turned into a guesthouse with the kind of views that make Wachau look almost unfairly photogenic. It is not a flashy winery resort, but it absolutely delivers the thing wine lovers come for: immersion in one of Europe’s great vineyard landscapes, with terraces, slopes and Heuriger culture all around... The wine angle here is rooted in atmosphere rather than a big estate production story. Guests staying here get that distinctly Austrian wine-tavern connection, while the location places you right in the middle of Wachau’s Riesling and Grüner Veltliner country. What really sells it, though, is the accommodation itself: sensitively renovated rooms, natural materials, and a winter garden breakfast room with a panorama that sounds borderline ridiculous. For romantics, wine travellers and anyone craving Wachau with more character than polish, this feels like a very smart little find. Read more

Surrounded by steep hills and its own organic vineyards, this is one of the hidden highlights of southern Styria’s wine scene. Monschein Weingut Straden is a family-run winery producing elegant, biodynamic wines. Especially standouts are Sauvignon Blanc, Muskateller, and Pinot Blanc - made from grapes grown in volcanic soils. The modern guesthouse features 4 stylish rooms with wood floors, soft linens, and private terraces that open straight onto the vines... Everything feels calm, welcoming, and refreshingly personal. Days here started with a generous farmhouse breakfast and evenings often took place on the patio were we enjoyed chilled Muskateller at sunset. Between the warm hospitality and beautifully expressive wines, this is a place we’ll be talking about for a long time. Read more

Every now and then you stumble across a hotel that makes you feel like you want to stay there forever. WURZENBERG Hotel Lodges Südsteiermark definitely belongs into that category. Welcome to the fabulous Fräulein Leni in Gamlitz, a hidden gem in Southern Styria’s wine country. The design of the hotel - crafted with abundant wood, stone, and glass - echoes the region’s intimate vineyards. Our suite opened onto sweeping vistas of vine-covered hills, perfect for sipping a local SKOFF Original Grüner Veltliner while the sun dipped behind the fields... Evening cocktails at the oversized wine-barrel lobby under a canopy of stars captured the friendly, laid-back luxury vibes here. Another thing that really stood out was the service, which never felt staged. The staff even remembered our favourite pours and suggested lesser-known boutique wineries nearby. We will return! Perched gracefully above Gamlitz’s rolling vineyards, Weinrefugium Brolli offers a stay that feels both refined and deeply genuine. Our room opened onto sweeping views of vines that stretch toward the horizon. Whether sipped from the balcony or admired from the spa, those views were absolutely unforgettable. We also loved the stellar breakfast and dinner - where the local specialties felt rooted, alive, and perfectly paired with estate wines... What really stood out, though, was the warmth. From the moment we checked in, the staff took extra care - calls to ask if we needed dinner reservations, wine recommendations tailored to our taste, or even hiking tips. There’s also an indoor pool and sauna, perfect for winding down after a day of exploring. Ideal for couples, solo travellers, or anyone seeking a serene base surrounded by vineyard charm. Would we visit again? Absolutely. Read more

Individual wooden bungalows tucked among the vines, pool, and the spa - a setting that makes opening a bottle feel like the only sensible thing to do. But what it does offer is a deep connection to Eisenberg’s wine scene, with nearby producers all around and a location closely tied to one of Austria’s most exciting red-wine corners. And then there is the food, which really helps this place punch above its weight. Right on the South Styrian Wine Road, Weinlandhof has one killer advantage from the start. Because this is one of the best bases for drinking your way through Austria’s most photogenic wine region. This is Sauvignon Blanc country with steep green hills and dangerously scenic detours. That's why guests staying here can enjoy wine-focused packages, regional tastings and even guided wine experiences at nearby wineries such as Grasmuck... Another fun detail we love is that Weinlandhof is an official partner of the Styrian Junker. The famously fresh, early-released autumn wine that South Styria celebrates like a seasonal event. They even hosts its own Junker tasting with local winemakers, which tells you a lot about how plugged-in it is to the local wine scene. The hotel itself gives you more than a bed between tastings: spacious rooms, many with balconies, plus an indoor pool, sauna, steam bath and a restaurant serving Styrian classics. For us, this is one for wine-road romantics, long-lunch specialists and anyone who wants Südsteiermark with more local flavour than glossy performance. Read more

What if your wine-country hotel came with vineyard views, a full spa and a hilltop position above one of Austria’s loveliest old towns? Steigenberger Hotel & Spa Krems answers that rather well... Overlooking Krems in the Wachau region, it is not a winery stay in the estate sense, but the location is pure wine territory: Wachau growers nearby, Danube views below, and a hotel that even builds vineyard picnics, torch-lit vineyard walks and tastings at local wineries into the broader experience. The hotel itself is larger and more classical than a tiny vineyard hideaway, but that scale buys you plenty: 173 rooms and suites, indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and one of those panoramas that makes a glass of Grüner Veltliner feel almost compulsory. The ideal place for people who want Wachau scenery with all the spa comforts included. Read more
