If we had to pick one reason to stay at Clos Malverne Wine Estate, it might actually be the wine and ice-cream pairing. It sounds slightly crazy, but combinations involving the estate’s own Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and flagship red make this one of the more playful tasting experiences we’ve seen in Stellenbosch. There are also conventional tastings for those who prefer to keep their wine away from ice cream.

The rest of the estate is equally appealing, with nine rooms among the Devon Valley vineyards, a spa, restaurant and small splash pool beside some of the rooms. We particularly like that you can arrive here and barely need to leave – wine, food, spa and vineyard views are all right outside your door.
