There is a lovely sense of history at Vendome Wine Estate. The Le Roux family has been growing grapes on this Paarl property for generations, and today the working wine and fruit farm surrounds a beautifully renovated manor house dating from 1898. It feels elegant without losing the character of an old Cape wine estate.

The manor has only a handful of rooms, a garden pool and plenty of space to slow down. Best of all, the estate’s own wines are very much part of the stay, and the nearby Salmon & Brine restaurant pairs them with seafood, sushi and Japanese-inspired dishes. We’d happily spend a couple of days here doing very little beyond eating, drinking and enjoying the garden.
