A glass of local wine beside a 15-metre infinity pool overlooking Paarl Mountain sounds pretty good to us. Tempel Wines is a small wine-estate stay with just a few rooms, each opening onto a private terrace with views towards either the vineyards or mountains. The renovated accommodation still retains its Cape Dutch character, which gives the place much more personality than a conventional guesthouse.

Some rooms sit right beside the pool, while another has its own garden facing the vines. This is not a grand resort – and that is exactly the appeal. It feels personal, peaceful and genuinely connected to the estate around it, with Tempel’s wine never far away.
