  • Bordeaux (Léognan) Show on map
There is luxury, and then there is the kind of understatement that La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly pulls off so well. Sitting among the centuries-old vines of Château Haut-Bailly in Pessac-Léognan, this 19th-century guesthouse is part of one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, which already gives the stay a certain quiet authority... Here, the experience is built around the vineyard itself: cellar visits, tastings, breakfast on the terrace overlooking the vines, and a sense that wine is the main event from the very first hour. The selection of guest rooms are large and softly lit, the pool looks directly onto the vineyard, and there is even a wine library for those moments when you want to keep the theme going without leaving the property. In our opinion, this is one of those Bordeaux stays that feels less like booking a hotel and more like being granted access to an inner circle. Read more

What do we love most about Le Relais de Franc Mayne? It’s that rare mix of heritage, intimacy, and location-set right in the heart of Saint-Émilion’s Grand Cru vineyards. We stayed here during a road trip through Bordeaux and immediately felt like we’d stepped into a postcard. • Bordeaux (Saint-Estèphe) Show on map
Some hotels offer merely a vineyard view. Château Laffitte Carcasset offers life literally inside the vineyard. In Saint-Estèphe, one of the Médoc’s most serious appellations, it lets guests stay in the heart of the estate, with just five rooms, a large park and tastings that make the wine connection feel immediate rather than decorative. We absolutely love the beauty of the setting, the quality of the wines and the pleasure of château-style living without stiffness... The appeal here is obvious: wake up in Bordeaux, walk the property, taste the house wines and spend the evening thinking about whether it is possible to extend your stay for a few more days. For us, this is the sort of stay that works because the wine is not merely nearby - it is the whole frame around the experience. Read more

  • Bordeaux (Saint-Estèphe) Show on map
We love that Château Tour Saint does not begin with hype, but with heritage. This Saint-Estèphe estate sits in one of the Médoc’s most serious appellations, close to the Gironde estuary. Its vineyard story is tied to the survival and revival of the smaller Bordeaux châteaux that lived through oidium, phylloxera and mildew before being reimagined for a new era... Today, guests stay in just five rooms surrounded by the estate’s own ten hectares of vines, which makes the whole experience feel quietly immersive rather than performative. What stayed with us most was the atmosphere: adults-only calm, a tasting room on site, vineyard walks, and that particular Saint-Estèphe mood where everything feels a little more structured and serious, including the wines. This is the kind of address we would choose when we want Bordeaux stripped back to its essentials: vines, history, and a glass with some real backbone. Read more

Though not a working winery, its proximity to Côtes de Bergerac, Pécharmant, and the famed Monbazillac appellations makes it an ideal base for wine exploration. • Bordeaux (Léognan) Show on map
Few wine hotels get to call Pessac-Léognan home. But the fantastic Château Léognan does. Set in Bordeaux’s oldest winegrowing area, and the only appellation here known for both great reds and standout dry whites, it comes with serious wine pedigree from the start. Tastings, vineyard visits and the château’s own wines all take the center stage at this remarkable place... So, a stay here means sleeping right in the middle of one of Bordeaux’s most coveted gravel-soil, and the accommodation ranges from classic château rooms to beautifully designed tree houses hidden in the grounds! For us, this is Bordeaux with both substance and sparkle. We only wish more wine experiences were like this... Read more

  • Bordeaux (Martillac) Show on map
Chateau de Lantic sits in Martillac, in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, but still close enough to Bordeaux to make the whole stay feel deliciously easy. Its history dates back to 1720 when it was built for the daughter of Captain de Lantic, an officer of Louis XV. What we like here is the contrast. You get 18th-century architecture, a one-hectare French garden and vineyard surroundings, but the mood is not dusty or formal... There is a private spa, outdoor pool, complimentary bikes and walking routes through the surrounding vines, so the experience is less “grand château performance” and more “Bordeaux weekend with very good scenery.” For us, this is one for couples and city-breakers who want wine country without disappearing too far off-grid. • Bordeaux (Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc) Show on map
If ever a wine estate looked as though it had been designed to seduce from the river up, it is Château Loudenne. With a private port on the Gironde estuary, a long tree-lined approach, and 140 hectares under organic farming, it has the kind of scale and drama that smaller Bordeaux stays simply cannot fake. We also loved the nickname: Loudenne is often referred to as the “pink château”, which already tells you this is not just another stern old Bordeaux property... The wine part is every bit as strong as the setting. This is a full estate with its own organic production, and the visits are built to bring guests into the whole story of the place rather than just pour and wave goodbye. Between the parkland, the estuary views and the sheer theatre of arriving by the water, this is the sort of address we would choose when we want Médoc with a little more grandeur and a little more romance.
