We instantly loved Zeit bei Sauerweins before we had even unpacked, simply because the concept is so clean: modern rooms, a working family winery, and vineyard views in every direction. In Palzem, right on the southern Moselle near Luxembourg, the house is directly connected to the Sauerwein family’s winery and redesigned wine house, with a vinothek and dedicated tasting room built right into the stay... That makes the whole place feel less like a hotel and more like being quietly folded into local wine life. What stayed with us most was the location. This is the Dreiländereck, where Germany, Luxembourg and France nearly brush shoulders, so one wine weekend can very easily turn into a cross-border itinerary. And yet the strongest argument for staying put is right outside the balcony: those vineyard views over the Moselle, and a glass of Sauerwein in hand. Read more

What characterizes a great wine hotel? For us, Schloss Lieser answers that with elegance, history, and an unmistakable sense of place. Set along the Mosel River in a beautifully restored 19th-century castle, this hotel blends old-world grandeur with the richness of one of Germany’s most famous wine regions. We stayed for two nights and were captivated by the castle’s atmosphere - ornate ceilings, sweeping staircases, and rooms that felt both luxurious and deeply rooted in heritage... The hotel's extensive wine list showcased the best of the Mosel, and tastings at nearby estates were just a short drive or bike ride away. Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant was also a standout, with seasonal dishes perfectly paired with local Rieslings. At Victor's Residenz-Hotel Schloss Berg, wine country comes dressed for the occasion. Set among the vineyards of Perl-Nennig, in the borderland where Germany, France and Luxembourg meet, this five-star hideaway pairs a Roman-style villa with a Renaissance castle. This makes it an indulgent base in one of Germany’s oldest wine regions, where vines have been cultivated since Roman times... But the wine angle here is more about location, atmosphere and access: the hotel actively points guests toward nearby wineries and regional wine experiences, while its own vaulted cellar can host tastings in a wonderfully old-world setting. And then there is the sheer pleasure factor. Rooms and suites feature spectacular vineyard views, while the culinary side is headlined by Christian Bau’s three-MICHELIN-starred fine dining. Add to this a spa with pool, whirlpool and saunas, and the end result is a tailor-made place for romantics, gourmands and anyone who likes their wine weekends with a splash of luxury. Read more

There are wine hotels with history, and then there is Schloss Thorn, which has been doing the vineyard thing for so long that the Romans are part of the backstory. This is billed as the oldest castle winery on the Moselle, and once you know that a Roman watchtower on the rock below helped give the castle its name, the whole place becomes far harder to resist... Even better, the family has owned the estate since 1534, and the vines still grow on the same rare Muschelkalk limestone soils along this short stretch of the southern Moselle. We especially love that the wine story here is not generic Mosel. Alongside Riesling, the estate grows white and red Elbling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Meunier and Sauvignon Gris - a lineup that feels refreshingly tied to local history rather than international fashion. For us, this is one for wine nerds, romantics and anyone who likes their weekends with a touch of castle life. Read more
