Hidden in the heart of Tuscany's Maremma,
Castello di Vicarello is the kind of wine retreat that feels like discovering a secret masterpiece. The 13th‑century castle has been lovingly restored by the Baccheschi‑Berti family and is set amid 40 hectares of organic vineyards, olive groves, and gardens.
Ten individually‑styled suites - ranging from medieval tower quarters to modern spa-designed spaces - showcase vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, and private terraces overlooking the vine‑rich land. A standout is the Spa Suite, complete with its own sauna and wine-barel(!) hot tub.
The castle’s organic vineyards use ancient high-density planting techniques - a passion project led by Brando Baccheschi‑Berti. Tastings begin among the vines, move into historic cellars, and continue over candlelit dinners crafted from estate-grown produce.
Other things worth mentioning is the hotel's two infinity pools, the fantastic hiking and biking trails that weave through the property, and lovely cooking classes which give hands-on flair to the stay.
