Castello Di Meleto, Chianti Classico comes with towers, ancient cellars and the sort of backstory that makes a wine trip instantly more interesting. The estate’s connection to wine dates back to the 11th century, when Benedictine monks were already working this land. Today, guests can sleep inside that history, then wander through noble rooms, old gardens and even an 18th-century theatre before ending up, quite rightly, in the tasting room.
What we love is that the stay is not just about the castle façade. The estate offers rooms, apartments and villas spread across the property, so the mood can be anything from romantic and historic to a little more relaxed and countryside-rooted. And the wine side is very much alive: tastings, guided castle visits and bottles from one of Chianti Classico’s most storied estates make the whole place feel like far more than a beautiful sleepover in a fortress.
A particularly detail: Meleto’s modern rebirth began in 1968 with what the estate describes as Italy’s first wine-world crowdfunding project, the “Vineyards Operation.” That mix of medieval roots and surprisingly modern reinvention gives the place real character. In other words, this is the kind of Tuscan wine stay that offers both romance and substance - and enough atmosphere to make one glass turn into three.
