  • Piedmont (Alfiano Natta) Show on map
One warm summer evening we arrived at Relais Castello di Razzano not quite knowing what to expect. We’d stayed at several other hotels on our Italian trip, but none would leave such a mark on us as this one. Everything - from the outstanding staff to the unique experiences - was so much more than we had hoped for. Our very spacious two-room suite was both comfortable and opened to a sea of vineyards stretching endlessly from left to right... Days here were mostly spent by the fantastic pool, where the kids splashed for hours while we had easy access to get another glass of wine from the nearby “Ciabot”. Evenings were dedicated for the hotel’s restaurant, where every meal was a masterclass in Piedmont flavours. But what's even more unique here was the wine museum! A captivating historic tour through the hotel’s basement and cellar, ending with a tasting (where we could select from 20 wines) at a price so reasonable it felt like a steal. Their sparkling wines stole our hearts - we only wish our suitcases had been big enough to bring more bottles home. Read more

At Villa Tiboldi, wine isn’t just part of the backdrop - it’s the whole point. Set among the Roero hills and tied to the Damonte family’s Malvirà winery just below, this is a stay with real grape-to-glass substance. Include cellar visits, guided tastings and an easy dive into one of Italy’s most characterful wine regions. Sounds pretty good right? The backstory of this place is also part of the charm... Once an 18th-century farmhouse, later abandoned, the villa was bought in 1995 and carefully restored over four years into an intimate relais with just 10 rooms. Then there’s the rest of it. Add a panoramic pool, a refined restaurant and those cinematic vine-covered hills, and you’ve got a stay that works brilliantly for couples, food-and-wine devotees and anyone plotting a slower, more stylish side of Piedmont. Not every wine stay needs chandeliers and a grand entrance. Agriturismo "Le Giustizie" wins by doing something smarter: keeping things intimate, rooted and wonderfully close to the source. The winery is always part of the story here, with tastings, vineyard visits and a chance to see how the estate’s wines come together from field to bottle... • Piedmont (La Morra) Show on map
Our stay at Antica Dimora Dosio was one of those rare Piedmont moments where the setting almost steals the show from the wine - almost. Perched in La Morra, one of Barolo’s most beloved villages, this adults-only boutique hotel sits on the highest hill among the vineyards on Serradenari. That gives the whole place a wonderful sense of altitude, light and perspective - and yes, the views are every bit as spectacular as you’d hope. We loved how the rooms balance warmth and elegance... Each one has its own personality, panoramic views over the Langhe, and even a fireplace, which makes the whole stay feel especially inviting after a day of tasting. The house itself has deep roots too: the original farmhouse dates back to the 1700s, before becoming the heart of Dosio’s wine production in 1974. And La Morra is not just pretty - it is central to Barolo’s story. Today it is one of the denomination’s most important communes, known for elegant Nebbiolo and vineyard history woven into every hillside. Back at the hotel, that connection continues with wine experiences, a panoramic pool and a food concept built around creative takes on Piedmont tradition. Some stays are about the room. Tenuta Bussia is about the address. Planted in the Bussia cru, this is a front-row seat to Barolo country, with winemaking history stretching back to 1856, and the estate’s finest wines ageing right on site. The mood is sleek, but the roots are old-school Langhe: vineyards all around, tastings close at hand, and a sense that wine is the reason the place exists in the first place... The rooms are modern, playful, and a little unexpected for such a historic village, with bold design touches and cozy details that make you want to linger. Downstairs, the wine bar is the beating heart of the place... We would happily check in again at Villaggio Narrante and disappear for a weekend. This 4-star wine resort started life as a working farmhouse and now sits at the heart of Fontanafredda’s Villaggio Narrante. Surrounded by the hills of Serralunga d’Alba and the vineyards that feed one of Italy’s most famous wine stories. What waits inside is much more stylish than the rustic name suggests... The fantastic rooms and suites are designed for calm, with understated luxury, authentic local touches and vineyard views that do most of the talking. Outside your door you'll have access to the spa (with indoor and outdoor pools), a gym and all the slow-moving Langhe atmosphere you could reasonably want. Cascina Binè feels like a proper wine-country hideout, located in the Gavi hills near Novi Ligure. Its very unusual circular vineyard is a fun talking point too, and gives the place a look all its own... Bathrooms mix modern comfort with a vintage touch, and the no-TV policy leans into the digital-detox mood in the best possible way. Inside, the 10 guest rooms hit that sweet spot between country chic and modern comfort, while the estate’s organic vineyards produce wines you can taste right on the terrace. It’s low-key, personal, and ridiculously scenic - the kind of place that makes you forget about schedules and start wondering if you can move in permanently.

  • Piedmont (Serralunga d'Alba) Show on map
Few places in the Langhe make such a strong case for staying put as Garesio Wine Resort. In Serralunga d’Alba, one of Barolo’s most storied villages, the Garesio family has turned an old farmhouse into a refined wine retreat with a cellar, spa and pool, right in the middle of UNESCO-listed vineyard country... The wine story is central: since 2010 the family has built a vineyard estate across the Langhe, Monferrato and Alta Langa, and guests can join guided cellar visits and tastings led by the resort’s own team. What gives it extra appeal is the contrast between the setting and the style. Serralunga is all serious Barolo pedigree and medieval hilltop drama, while the resort itself sounds calm, contemporary and easy to sink into, with spacious rooms, a wellness area and views straight onto the surrounding vines. Guest reviews repeatedly highlight the spa, the design and the feeling that everything has been done with real sensitivity to the landscape. This is the kind of address that works brilliantly when you want Piedmont with proper wine credentials but without any stiffness: tastings in the cellar, long afternoons by the pool, and Barolo country right outside the door. • Piedmont (San Martino Alfieri) Show on map
If you're anything like us - always in a search for the world's greatest wine hotel getaways - then you'll definitely love this one. Because Marchesi Alfieri checks all the boxes - and then some. Set within a graceful 18th-century mansion in San Martino Alfieri, this place is more than a stay - it’s living vineyard history. The 7 individually styled rooms occupy the heart of the property and surrounding wings... Each offers antique charm-parquet floors, cozy seating, and generously sized, modern baths. Breakfast arrives on crisp linens in the arcade, with regional cheeses, cold cuts, cakes and other homemade delicacies. Wine is of course also woven into every moment here. You can stroll through ancient cantina cellars, enjoy guided tastings of their structured Barbera, Nebbiolo, Grignolino and Pinot Noir, or sip on the terrace overlooking the quiet village square. So if you want to combine a fantastic location, historic buildings, and wine‑centric hospitality this is a discovery you’ll be glad you made! Read more

  • Piedmont (Serralunga d'Alba) Show on map
Surrounded by Barolo’s famed vineyards, Tota Virginia Antico Podere lives up to its name - an enchanting “old estate” reborn with elegance in Serralunga d’Alba. Originally an early‑1900s farmhouse, it retains its exposed bricks and rustic charm while introducing clean, modern comforts across its 13 rooms - many featuring vineyard‑view balconies... However, the main highlight (if you ask us) is the on‑site restaurant, serving Piedmontese cuisine infused with local produce and Barolo-region wines. Their cellar and cozy lounge offer intimate tastings among barrel‑lined walls. And for the traveler looking for a little relaxation, there is a seasonal pool with sun loungers, perfect after day biking through the hills or visiting nearby wineries. Read more

  • Piedmont (San Marzano Oliveto) Show on map
We would book Agriturismo Cà del Nono for the atmosphere alone. Surrounded by the vines between Langhe and Monferrato, it has that easy, family-run energy. Better still, the wine is not just scenery: the property is part of Amerio Vincenzo’s winery, with tasting-led stays designed to connect guests to the territory first-hand... The rooms lean more spacious and comfortable than showy, and some add balconies, terraces or apartment-style setups that make a longer stay very tempting indeed. Go here if your ideal wine escape involves lovely hosts, rolling hills and the feeling that you have found something genuine before the glossy magazines did. Read more

  • Piedmont (Novi Ligure) Show on map
Set in the rolling Gavi hills, Agriturismo Tenuta la Marchesa is a historic estate that gives us exactly what we want from a wine stay. Proper vineyard surroundings, tastings in a beautifully preserved old cellar, and the feeling that wine is part of the place’s DNA rather than a nice extra. What we loved the most about our stay here was the atmosphere. The 16th-century villa has real character, and the rooms feel charming and relaxed rather than overly polished... If we could choose, we’d go back for the turret room in the old pigeon house for those panoramic views, then spend the afternoon by the pool with a bottle chilling nearby. And yes, we’d absolutely stay for dinner. The restaurant serves classic Piedmont dishes with estate wines, which makes the whole experience feel deliciously complete. For us, this is the kind of place that turns a simple wine weekend into something far harder to leave. Read more

Canonica di Corteranzo is a former rectory perched in the Monferrato hills. It has been transformed into a lovely wine stay with bags of character, ancient walls, vineyard views and the estate’s own wines. In other words; exactly the sort of atmosphere we fall for instantly. Instead of slick resort, what waits here is something warmer and more romantic... The 10 rooms are individually styled with antique touches, timber beams and a quietly old-world feel, while the pool and spa add just enough indulgence to make lingering very easy indeed. And then there is the food and wine. Tastings bring guests closer to the local terroir, and dinner here feels like one of those evenings that starts elegantly and ends with another bottle. For us, this is exactly the kind of place that turns a countryside break into something far more memorable. Read more

  • Piedmont (La Morra) Show on map
We love I Quattro Pozzi because it does not overplay its hand. Set in a finely restored old farmhouse in La Morra, it gives you one of the smartest setups in the Langhe: vineyard quiet, a heated infinity pool looking over the hills, and the historic centre of La Morra just a short stroll away. That combination of seclusion and proximity is rarer than it sounds. This is not a big wine resort with every possible extra. It is more restrained than that, and all the better for it... The real luxury is being in the middle of one of Italy’s great food-and-wine landscapes, waking up in a small country house and deciding that the day’s biggest challenge is which cellar door to visit first. Tenuta Montemagno is located high in the rolling hills of Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage wine landscape. It's a boutique estate where tradition and innovation meet. The historic cascina has been transformed into a refined relais with just a handful of rooms, each blending rustic charm with modern elegance. Here, wine is at the heart of everything... The estate produces some of Piedmont’s most characterful bottles - from crisp Timorasso to bold Barbera d’Asti Superiore - and guests are invited to taste them in the ancient cellars or out among the vines. The restaurant highlights Piedmontese classics paired thoughtfully with the estate’s own labels, while the panoramic pool offers a front-row seat to the sun setting over the vineyards. • Piedmont (Asti) Show on map
There is something immediately appealing about a place that calls itself a vineyard hotel and actually means it. Cascina Desderi sits on a hilltop just outside Asti, in the first folds of Monferrato. Their range of very cozy apartments are named after grape varieties from Piedmont and feel tailor-made for long, quiet days among the vines... Cascina Desderi also has a somewhat unusual background story as the owners are Scandinavian and have done everything to create their own little corner in the wine paradise of Piedmont. Instead of a classic hotel structure, you get apartments of different shapes and sizes, a pool, garden and terrace, and a looser, more independent tempo. This is the sort of place for guests who like the idea of Asti and Monferrato without wanting a large luxury resort around them. Come here for vineyard views, a more personal atmosphere and the pleasure of discovering a less-hyped side of Piedmont. Read more

There’s a pool where the only soundtrack is birds and the occasional cork popping... How about breakfast? Properly generous - the sort that makes you wonder why you ever settled for cereal at home. • Piedmont (Canelli) Show on map
Somewhere between Canelli and a very good decision sits I Tre Poggi Dimora di Charme. This relais leans into the softer side of Langhe-Monferrato life: pool, spa, vineyard views, and traditional Piedmont cooking. The hotel's name itself hints at the landscape - three hills - and the whole place seems designed to keep your eyes on them. What gives it a stronger wine identity than first meets the eye is the Tre Poggi Wine Club and its own labels... Including Moscato d’Asti DOCG and Langhe Favorita DOC, which tie the stay back to the bottles in a satisfying way. Rather than going all in on flashy winery theatrics, I Tre Poggi sells the broader Canelli experience: wine, wellness and the calm confidence of a place that knows exactly where it is. Ideal for couples who want Piedmont at its most easy-going and scenic. Read more

  • Piedmont (Monforte dʼAlba) Show on map
If you like your wine hotels with serious culinary ambition, Réva Resort is the one. Set in Monforte d’Alba, surrounded by vineyards and woodland in Langhe, it combines a winery, a resort and a Michelin-starred restaurant in one very convincing package. FRE, the resort’s restaurant, held a Michelin star in the Michelin Guide - which is the sort of detail that shifts a stay from “nice” to “strategically dangerous for your bank account...” The rest of the setup is no afterthought: a spa, outdoor pool, tasteful rooms, residences and a winery that spans different local terroirs. Réva also leans hard into experiences, from white truffle hunting to guided cycling across the Langhe hills. This is not rustic charm; it is full-spectrum Piedmont immersion for guests who want Nebbiolo, wellness and a very serious dinner all under the same address. Read more

  • Piedmont (Santo Stefano Belbo) Show on map
What we loved about Cadgal - Tenuta Valdivilla is that it tells a slightly different Piedmont story. Located in the rolling Moscato hills around Santo Stefano Belbo, the estate has built its name around Moscato d’Asti DOCG, which gives the whole stay a very clear identity from the start. This is a place where the wine culture feels softer, more fragrant and a little more underrated... The property keeps things intimate: just five rooms (all with vineyard views), a historic winery on site, and a restaurant serving local delicacies. And then there is the setting beyond the estate. Santo Stefano Belbo is also the hometown of Cesare Pavese, one of Italy’s most important 20th-century writers, which gives the area an extra layer of cultural depth alongside all that wine. For us, this is one of those stays that works because it feels rooted in a very specific place - aromatic, scenic and wonderfully unshowy. Read more

Hidden away in Piedmont’s Langhe hills, Relais Villa D’Amelia is the kind of place that makes you rethink what a proper wine escape should be. Once an 18th-century farmhouse, it’s now a design-forward boutique hotel that still manages to keep its roots firmly in the soil of Barolo and Barbaresco country. The rooms are elegant but understated, with big windows that frame vineyard views and rolling hills that go on forever... Outside, the infinity pool practically begs for long afternoons of doing absolutely nothing, unless you count sipping Nebbiolo as “something.” And speaking of Nebbiolo, the wine list here is serious - we’re talking the region’s finest producers paired with plates of refined Piedmontese cuisine at the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s intimate, stylish, and surrounded by some of the world’s best vineyards. For anyone chasing that perfect balance of wine, food, and laid-back luxury, Villa D’Amelia nails it. Read more

The fantastic Castello di Gabiano invites you into a thousand-year-old world in one of Monferrato’s grand old addresses. It boasts an estate of more than 260 hectares with vineyards, views over the Po, and a history documented as far back as the 8th century! The boxwood labyrinth alone would be enough to remember it by - one of the rare documented examples in Italy’s historic gardens, dating from the 1930s. And for those looking for the perfect wine hotel, they have it all... There is a dedicated tasting room overlooking the vineyards, a wine shop for the estate’s bottles, and suites spread across 12 restored dwellings within the castle complex. Then there is the 3 Orologi restaurant, housed in the old vinegar factory and drawing vegetables and herbs from the castle’s own potager. • Piedmont (Cioccaro) Show on map
After reading so much praise for Relais Sant’Uffizio Wellness & Spa, our expectations were high-and this Piedmont gem more than lived up to them. Set in a former 17th-century monastery in the heart of Monferrato wine country, the property is surrounded by vineyards and hazelnut groves as far as the eye can see. What truly set our stay apart was the atmosphere of quiet elegance, where history and comfort come together effortlessly... Mornings began with slow breakfasts overlooking the gardens, followed by wine tastings featuring local Barbera and Nebbiolo. The spa, set in the monastery’s old cellars, offered a peaceful escape with its thermal pool and herbal steam baths. Evenings were spent dining at the Michelin-starred restaurant, where every dish told a story of the region. We left with full hearts, relaxed minds - and already longing to return. Read more

  • Piedmont (Barolo) Show on map
At Hotel Barolo, the name is not subtle and neither is the appeal. This family-run stay has been doing hospitality in Barolo for three generations, and it comes with the sort of wine credentials most hotels can only borrow. Brezza’s winery and tasting room are right here, so guests can move from vineyard views to cellar visits and straight into glasses filled with estate Nebbiolo and Barolo... The rooms lean classic rather than flashy, dressed with 19th-century Piedmontese furniture, and many look out towards the Castle of Barolo, which is about as on-brand a view as you could hope for. There is also an outdoor pool for post-tasting loafing, plus a setting surrounded by vines that makes a second bottle feel almost inevitable. And then there is the food. Ristorante Brezza serves the sort of Piedmont dishes you come to this region craving, backed by around 70 labels and tasting menus loaded with local classics. Bright, rustic‑chic interiors feel thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Now for the fun part: regional wine flows freely, and evenings in the cantina with the owners - Matteo, Federico, Beatrice - are when things get magical.
