COBUE "Wine resort & Spa" has one particularly strong advantage: it lets you stay right inside the world of a real family-run winery. In Pozzolengo, just south of Lake Garda, the Castoldi family works more than 17 hectares of vineyards within a 25-hectare estate. Focus is mainly on native grape varieties and producing everything from Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia to classic-method sparkling wines with bottle refermentation.
The hotel side is just as considered. There are six apartments inside a modern, eco-conscious building designed to bring in the landscape rather than compete with it, so the mood is calm, contemporary and very much in tune with the territory. Then comes the wellness part: Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, salt room and a fuller spa setup that makes a tasting-led afternoon feel like only half the plan.
What really sells it, though, is the way wine and place are woven together. Cobue offers guided tastings through the winery and estate, with sunsets, vineyard views and local products very much part of the picture. Exactly the sort of wine stay we love.
