Vallonne Vineyards was founded in 2009 as India’s first boutique winery, and is as India’s first wine professional-turned-vintner. That already makes it a much more interesting address than the average resort near Nashik. Add the location in Igatpuri, beside the Mukhne Dam with Sahyadri mountain views, and the whole thing starts sounding dangerously weekend-worthy.
The hotel is tiny - just four rooms - which keeps everything intimate, and we love that the estate has the confidence to skip televisions so guests actually look out at the vines, lake and hills. The wine lineup has personality too: India’s only rosé made with Cabernet Sauvignon, dessert wines from sun-dried grapes in straw huts, and Grand Reserve bottles matured in a cellar 20 feet underground.
