We’d had our eye on
Ventozelo Hotel & Quinta for some time, and staying there turned out to be one of the most memorable wine stays we’ve had. Set high above the Douro River, this former working farm has been transformed into a thoughtfully restored estate where nature, wine, and heritage all come together beautifully.
The rooms and suites are spread across old farm buildings - simple, tasteful, and full of character, with views that stretch out over terraced vineyards and olive groves. Everything feels calm and unhurried, whether you’re walking along the estate’s trails, enjoying a picnic with a bottle of Ventozelo’s own wines, or just sitting on the terrace watching the light change across the valley.
The food is another highlight: local, seasonal dishes served at the on-site restaurant with wines that rarely travel far from where they’re made. A place to slow down and experience the Douro Valley at its very best.
