Staying at São Lourenço do Barrocal was one of the most grounding and unforgettable experiences we've had in Portugal. It’s not just a hotel - it’s a working farm, a vineyard, and a place with deep family history. You can almost feel it as you walk its trails or sip its wine. Our room was effortlessly elegant, with terracotta floors, handcrafted furniture, and huge windows framing the Alentejo landscape... We also loved the guided tasting in their atmospheric old winery, where the winemaker shared insights that felt anything but rehearsed. Days started slowly with long breakfasts and ended with outdoor dinners under starry skies, featuring seasonal dishes straight from the farm. Between the peaceful spa, horse rides through open fields, and even an archaeological walk on the property, it never felt staged - just incredibly authentic. What we loved the most about Herdade da Rocha is that it gives you two Alentejo classics at once: wine and olives. The estate stretches across vineyards, olive groves and even a golf course, with just eight accommodations in total - four suites facing the Touriga Nacional vines and four private villas whose décor is inspired by olive wood and local olive varieties. That mix already makes it more memorable than a standard vineyard stay. The wine side is the real thing too... Guests can tour the winery, taste the estate wines and then retreat to a lodge that is small enough to feel personal rather than resort-like. For us, this is the sort of Alentejo address that works because the landscape, the wine and the slower rhythm all feel inseparable. Read moreGuest rating: 9.1 (superb)Price from: BRL 1,150 /night

If there’s a place that breathes the heart of Alentejo wine and countryside magic, it’s Herdade da Malhadinha Nova. Located near Albernoa in southern Portugal, this estate unfolds across rolling vineyards and wild fields. From the outside, the villas and suites feel part of the land - whitewashed walls, local stone, views stretching to the horizon. Inside, modern comfort meets regional soul and 5-star luxury... Besides the accommodations, another highlight here is the a fantastic on-site restaurant where every dish leans on ingredients grown on the estate. Olive oil, honey, vegetables - all paired beautifully with the house wines, which grow right beneath your feet. The spa is another touch of the vineyard life made literal: treatments use wine, honey, and rosemary, and sessions can include sensory showers, yoga or nutrition-paired lunches. With its unforgettable wine tastings, warm service, and a setting that demands you to slow down - it's no wonder why so many guests love this place.
