What if one of Luxembourg’s best wine escapes turned out to sit not in a grand château, but in a sleek riverside design hotel? Hotel de l'Ecluse Superior makes a very convincing case. In Stadtbredimus, right on the Moselle and surrounded by vineyard slopes, it gives guests easy access to one of Europe’s most underrated wine regions, where crisp whites and crémants are the local stars and winery-hopping is blissfully straightforward... What you'll het here is not old-world heaviness, instead it's glass, wood, clean lines and big views across the river and vines. There is also a swimming pond, sauna and fitness area, which turns the whole stay into something far more tempting than a simple wine-route stop. And then there is the restaurant. Pier 29 serves regional dishes with what the hotel proudly calls Luxembourg’s largest local wine list, which is exactly the sort of detail we like to hear. For us, this is a smart pick for wine lovers who want Moselle scenery with a fresher, more contemporary edge. Read moreGuest rating: 8.7 (fabulous)Price from: BOB 1,334 /night

What we remember the most from our recent stay at Domaine de la Forêt is how unexpectedly complete it felt. Set above Remich in Luxembourg’s Moselle region, it combines hotel, spa, restaurant and vineyard setting in a way that makes it very easy to check in and quietly abandon the rest of your plans. The hotel is closely tied to the local wine landscape, with a vineyard on site and wine-focused experiences woven into the stay... The rooms are individually decorated and romantic without being overly sweet, while the wellness part gives the whole place real staying power. How about an indoor pool, spa treatments, gym and garden views over the surrounding vineyards and countryside. Exactly the kind of setup that works equally well after a day of tasting or on a day when you decide not to move very much at all. And then there is the Moselle itself - one of Europe’s more underrated wine regions, where the pace is slower and the experience often feels more intimate. For us, Domaine de la Forêt is the kind of place that turns a wine trip into a proper retreat. We will definitely return! Read moreGuest rating: 8.3 (very good)Price from: BOB 1,485 /night
