There is something immediately appealing about a place that calls itself a vineyard hotel and actually means it.
Cascina Desderi sits on a hilltop just outside Asti, in the first folds of Monferrato. Their range of very cozy apartments are named after grape varieties from Piedmont and feel tailor-made for long, quiet days among the vines. Cascina Desderi also has a somewhat unusual background story as the owners are Scandinavian and have done everything to create their own little corner in the wine paradise of Piedmont.
Instead of a classic hotel structure, you get apartments of different shapes and sizes, a pool, garden and terrace, and a looser, more independent tempo. This is the sort of place for guests who like the idea of Asti and Monferrato without wanting a large luxury resort around them. Come here for vineyard views, a more personal atmosphere and the pleasure of discovering a less-hyped side of Piedmont.
