What we loved about
Cadgal - Tenuta Valdivilla is that it tells a slightly different Piedmont story. Located in the rolling Moscato hills around Santo Stefano Belbo, the estate has built its name around Moscato d’Asti DOCG, which gives the whole stay a very clear identity from the start. This is a place where the wine culture feels softer, more fragrant and a little more underrated.
The property keeps things intimate: just five rooms (all with vineyard views), a historic winery on site, and a restaurant serving local delicacies.
And then there is the setting beyond the estate. Santo Stefano Belbo is also the hometown of Cesare Pavese, one of Italy’s most important 20th-century writers, which gives the area an extra layer of cultural depth alongside all that wine. For us, this is one of those stays that works because it feels rooted in a very specific place - aromatic, scenic and wonderfully unshowy.
