In the hills of Piglio, Casale Verdeluna Wine Resort leans into the softer side of wine country: open views, a pool that faces the mountains, and rooms spread through a country estate that feels more relaxed than theatrical. It sits among the vineyards of L’Avventura, in an area known for Cesanese, and that gives the whole place a clear centre of gravity. The appeal is not only the setting, but how naturally food, wine and the stay connect... There is a restaurant on site, accommodation with mountain views, and a rhythm that seems built for long lunches and late check-outs rather than over-planned itineraries. What lingers here is the atmosphere: hills, vines, a slightly hidden corner of Lazio, and the feeling that the best version of the trip probably starts once you stop trying to do too much. There’s a certain kind of slow magic to Il Podere di Marfisa that stays with you long after checkout. Set in the lush hills of Tuscia Viterbese - where Lazio meets Tuscany - this 20-hectare estate sits at 380m above sea level, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and breezes that carry hints of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The transformation into a wine‑resort with spa is seamless... The restored farmhouse exudes warmth and understated elegance, with rooms opening onto manicured gardens and reminders of centuries past. Each morning, a generous breakfast arrives, and throughout the day, you can settle by the pool, unwind in the spa and - of course - tour the vineyards and wine cellar! Just outside Rome, on the volcanic slopes of Frascati, we discovered Merumalia Wine Resort, a place where vineyard life and modern elegance come together beautifully. Lazio has been making wine since ancient Roman times, and here we could taste that heritage in every glass. Our suite was fantastic, with wide views over rolling hills and vines that seemed to stretch forever. We spent lazy afternoons tasting Merumalia’s wines, wandering through the vineyard, and unwinding by the pool... Evenings were all about sitting on the terrace with a bottle, watching the sun dip behind the Castelli Romani. Our experience here really reminded us why we love winery hotels so much. Wine, comfort, and history, all just a short drive from the heart of Rome. Read moreGuest rating: 9.4 (superb)Price from: HUF 37,700 /night

In the hills of Piglio, where Cesanese grapes thrive and have been cultivated for centuries, Al Piglio Maison de Charme reimagines what a vineyard escape can be. This isn’t a rustic farmhouse - it’s refined, design-driven, and made for travellers who want both wine and wellness in equal measure. The resort pairs its own winemaking heritage with contemporary luxury. Think modern suites with soft tones and panoramic windows that draw the rolling vineyards inside... Days can drift between tastings of the estate’s Cesanese wines, spa treatments inspired by the land, and lazy afternoons by the pool. It’s less about tradition and more about reinvention: a place where the rhythm of vineyard life meets modern elegance. Highly recommended! Lazio has been producing wine since ancient Roman times, with vineyards sprawling around volcanic lakes and hillsides near Rome. While the region is best known for crisp whites like Frascati, it’s also home to boutique winery stays that let you experience this heritage up close - like Agriturismo Piani della Marina. Located near Tarquinia on the Tyrrhenian coast, this family-run estate combines a working vineyard with welcoming agriturismo hospitality... Guests can taste wines made on-site, walk through the vines, or simply enjoy a glass of their fresh, mineral-driven whites while watching the sunset over the fields. The accommodation is relaxed and rustic, with cozy rooms that reflect the farmhouse charm of Lazio’s countryside. Add to that a pool, homemade breakfasts, and the easy-going rhythm of vineyard life, and you’ve got a stay that’s both authentic and refreshing. A very good pick if you want to discover a less obvious side of Italian wine country. Cincinnato Wine Resort is set in a 19th-century farmhouse in Cori, on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains, with vineyards all around and a much calmer mood than the bigger-name wine regions. What stands out here is the connection to native Lazio grape varieties and Cincinnato’s long history as a cooperative founded in 1947... With guided tastings, a restaurant built around food-and-wine pairing, and an approach that feels rooted in the place - this place should be high on your must-stay list! In Tarquinia, a historic town on Lazio’s Etruscan coast, we were lucky enough to stay a couple of nights at Villa Hotel Valle Del Marta Resort. A place that blends vineyard traditions with indulgent comfort. This family-run estate not only makes its own wine and liqueurs but also wraps guests in a resort-style experience that feels both intimate and generous. We had booked a suite that opened onto views of the gardens and surrounding hills, and the atmosphere was pure relaxation... Days here could start with a visit to the spa, continue with a swim in the pool, and, of course, include tastings of the estate’s wines and artisanal spirits. The food is another highlight, with dishes rooted in local flavours and always paired perfectly with a glass from their cellar. For us, Valle Del Marta offered exactly what we love in a winery stay: a connection to the vineyard, plenty of authenticity, and a touch of luxury that makes it unforgettable.
