In Torano Nuovo, among the vines of northern Abruzzo,
Tenuta Morganti offers something far more memorable than a standard countryside stay: the chance to sleep inside a wooden wine barrel. The Morganti story begins in 1953, when the family planted Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo here, and that agricultural identity still gives the place its charm.
What makes it work is that the barrel stay never feels like a gimmick. The eco-glamping setup is thoughtfully done, with private bathrooms, renewable energy from photovoltaic panels, and extras like tasting boxes with local cheese, cured meats and estate wine. There is even a barrel with its own jacuzzi, which tells you a lot about the mood.
It is playful, yes, but also rooted in something real. Wine, olive oil, honey, vines, family history - everything here feels connected, which is exactly why the stay lingers in the memory.
