What drew us to
Scalarea Estate Residences was the contradiction. It sits in Crete, on a working wine estate with tours and organised tastings, but instead of leaning rustic, it offers villas and residences with the kind of space and privacy that make it feel more like a private world than a hotel. The winery is explicitly open to the public, and the whole estate presents itself around gastronomy and wine experiences, which gives the stay a real centre of gravity.
For us, this is exactly the sort of place that works when you want wine to be part of the holiday without the holiday becoming a lecture on terroir. You can do the tasting, learn the estate story, and then retreat to your own corner of Crete with the bottle that made the biggest impression.
