Our stay at
Kasteel van Ordingen felt like stepping into a grand Flemish daydream - with very good taste. Set in the heart of Haspengouw, surrounded by orchards and rolling countryside, this five-star castle hotel carries almost 1,000 years of history. Yet it never feels dusty or overly formal.
Our room was beautifully dressed, with the kind of character-rich interiors that made us want to linger far longer than planned. And that sense of place did not stop at the décor.
What surprised us most was the wine angle. Kasteel van Ordingen has its own vineyard and in 2024 they launched its first organic sparkling wine from the 2022 harvest - a real rarity in Flanders. Add nearby winery visits and a bar pouring the castle’s own sparkling wine and pear gin, and the whole stay feels even more deeply rooted in the region than we expected.
That same sense of completeness carries through to everything else. Dinner at
Aurum brings refined, local-flavoured cooking,
Bistro Richard keeps things more relaxed, and the wellness area - with hammam, sauna and infrared chairs - makes it dangerously easy to cancel all other plans. It is comfortable, quietly luxurious and wonderfully complete.
